First Metropolitan Credit Union was incorporated on April 4, 1949 as Richmond Teachers Credit Union. First Metropolitan Credit Union is a state-chartered credit union, originally serving certified and classified employees of the Richmond Unified school District. The Credit Union added other school districts located throughout Contra Costa County to it’s field of membership and by 1967, Credit union membership was available to all employees (certified and classified) of public and private schools in Contra Costa County. It was in 1967 that the Richmond Teachers Credit Union changed its name to contra Costa Schools Credit Union. test
The Credit Union changed its name again in 1983 to Contra Costa Credit Union because it began adding Contra Costa County chambers of commerce to its field of membership. In 1984, the Credit Union changed its name to First Metropolitan Credit Union (Metro 1) to more accurately define its ever growing Field of Membership, which includes but is not limited to any individual who lives, works or worships in Contra Costa, Alameda and Solano Counties.
Metro 1 currently operates five conveniently located Financial Centers in Concord, Antioch, Benicia, Oakley and Richmond, California; all of which are centrally located throughout Contra Costa, Alameda and Solano Counties. Members can use their Metro 1 Visa® Check/ATM Card or ATM Only Card at no charge at any Metro 1 ATM. Also available to members are CO-OP, STAR and Plus Network ATMs.
For 60 years, Metro 1 has been delivering service-oriented personal banking to all of our neighbors. We listen. And we pride ourselves on being able to offer customized financial solutions when other banking institutions cannot.
